Abstract
The purposes of this paper were to classify and describe the types of high risk population through the test of apolipoprotein E among rural populations. The gene for human apolipoprotein E has been found on the long arm of chromosome 19 and exists in three common allelic forms, E2, E3, and E4. The E4 allele is represented in Alzheimer¡¯s disease (AD) and is known as genetic risk factor for AD. Data were collected from 200 voluntary participants who aged from 35 up to 80 years. The risk group consists of 32 people (16% of the sample) who have APOE-E4 gene and have over 70% possibility of developing the AD. The higher risk group among the 32 people can be classified into four types: the group with the family history of dementia (n = 2), the group with vascular disease (n = 7), the group with diabetes mellitus (n = 5), and the group who are older than 60 years old (n = 6).
